Celebrating Volunteering in Westminster: Highlights from the Community Awards 2026!

Westminster City Council had the pleasure of honouring it's remarkable volunteers at this year’s Community Awards 2026. The ceremony took place at Underbelly Boulevard in Soho on 23 March 2026.

The evening was a wonderful showcase of the far-reaching impact made by both individual volunteers and voluntary community sector organisations across the city. It was brilliant to see Dogs on The Streets (DOTS) take home the Volunteering Project of the Year, and for Vidhi Saurav to be recognised as Young Volunteer of the Year.

We also want to give a big round of applause to our own Westminster Connects Volunteer, Nete, who was named as a finalist for the Active Citizen Award, celebrating their ongoing commitment to supporting residents with their shopping.

A heartfelt thank you goes to our Westminster Connects Event Volunteers — Shenbo, Emmanuel, Youxi, and Seun — whose friendly faces and support helped create such a warm and welcoming atmosphere for everyone attending. Special recognition also goes to Maui, our regular Event Volunteer and Community Researcher, who stepped up to co-host the ceremony!

“It was a rewarding experience supporting, registering guests and helping the event run smoothly. It was inspiring to see so many people recognised for the difference they make” Seun – Event Volunteer

The stories shared by all those nominated serve as a powerful reminder of the positive, lasting impact volunteering has on our community. If this has inspired you to get involved, now is a perfect time to connect with local projects and help out. Take a look at our Opportunites Section to find your next voluntary role.
